Working Student Status

Article 27 of the University Teaching Regulations – Working Student

  1. To improve access to educational offerings for working students enrolled in undergraduate and master’s courses, the status of working student is defined.
  2. A working student is someone who engages in:
    • Paid work for private individuals, including cooperatives, or public entities;
    • Co.co.co or co.co.pro activities;
    • Self-employment with a VAT number and proof of such activity;
    • Commercial, artisanal, or agricultural business activities;
    • Civil service.
  3. To qualify, the student must provide a substitute declaration of certification indicating the work period, which must be at least three months (not necessarily consecutive) in the previous twelve months. The declaration must also include:
    • Employer’s details for employees;
    • Details of the entity for co.co.co or co.co.pro activities;
    • VAT number and type of self-employment activity;
    • Business registration details for commercial or agricultural entrepreneurs.

The working student status is recognized officially if the requirements are met.

  1. Documentation must be submitted during the following periods each year:
    February 1st – March 31st;
    September 1st – October 31st.
  2. For each course, working students must be guaranteed two additional exam sessions beyond the minimum required by Article 23, paragraph 8. Departments must ensure additional exam sessions if needed, which may overlap with regular class periods. Registration for reserved exam sessions must be completed at least two weeks before the start. Instructors will arrange meeting times with working students outside regular office hours.

Department of Economics and Management Internal Regulations

  1. To be recognized as a “working student,” a minimum of 40 hours of work per month for at least 3 months (not necessarily consecutive) is required.
  2. Documentation proving the status of Working Student must be uploaded on didatticaeco.ec.unipi.it from September 1st.
